Birthday Special: Evolution of Ram Charan into a Global Star

Superstar Ram Charan who has made his name worldwide celebrates his birthday today. He will turn 38 years old. He was born on March 27, 1985, in Chennai as Konidela Ram Charan Teja to Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi and his wife Surekha.

Ram Charan is one of the most popular and well-liked performers in South Indian cinema. The actor made his screen debut in 2007 with Puri Jagganadh's Chirutha. With his acting prowess, the actor captured millions of hearts. Over time, the superstar pushed his way to the Telugu industry.

Chirutha (2007)


He made his acting debut in the action film Chirutha in 2007. In this film, Ram played the role of a young man named Charan who is in pursuit of a gangster who murdered his parents.

The film was written and directed by Puri Jagannadh, and produced by C. Ashwini Dutt under the banner Vyjayanthi Movies. It also stars Neha Sharma, Prakash Raj, Ashish Vidyarthi, Tanikella Bharani, Sayaji Shinde, Daniel Balaji, and Brahmanandam.

For this film, Ram Charan went on to win Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut – South and Nandi Special Jury Award for Best Performance in Debut film.

Magadheera (2009)


Ram Charan's breakthrough performance came in the fantasy action film Magadheera in 2009, which was the highest-grossing Telugu film of all time.

In this film, he portrayed the dual role of Harsha and a brave warrior Kala Bhairava in 1609 CE. The film explores the themes of reincarnation and eternal love.

It was directed by S S Rajamouli and produced by Allu Aravind's Geetha Arts based on a story by V. Vijayendra Prasad and starred Srihari, Kajal Aggarwal, and Dev Gill. It was the highest-grossing Telugu film in history at the time and eclipsed Chandramukhi (2005) as the longest-running South Indian film, with a theatrical run of 1000 days.

The movie also took home six Filmfare Awards, nine state Nandi Awards, and the National Award for Best Special Effects and Best Choreography at the 57th National Film Awards. The film's Japanese-dubbed version premiered in August 2018 and became one of the highest-grossing Indian films ever at the Japanese box office. For this film, Ram Charan won Filmfare Award for Best Actor – Telugu.

Racha (2012)

The next notable work by Ram Charan was in the total masala movie Racha in which he was seen alongside Tamannaah Bhatia.

He portrayed the role of Raj, a gambler who is forced to convince Chaitra, a dental student and the daughter of a dreaded and influential businessman Bellary, to fall in love with him, in order to get money for his adopted father's surgery. But he becomes embroiled in a larger scheme involving Chitra's stepfather.

The film is directed by Sampath Nandi and co-written by the Paruchuri Brothers. Produced by R. B. Choudary in association with N. V. Prasad and Paras Jain under their banner Megaa Super Good Films. It also stars Mukesh Rishi, Dev Gill and Kota Srinivasa Rao.

The movie garnered four nominations for the 60th Filmfare Awards South, where it took home the award for best choreography. Additionally, it was nominated for five awards at the 2nd South Indian International Movie Awards.

Nayak (2013)


In this action comedy, Ram Charan portrayed the double role of Ram Charan "Cherry" and Siddharth Naayak "Siddhu". In the movie, Siddharth Naayak, a motivating young leader from Kolkata, and Cherry, a software engineer from Hyderabad, battle against Rawat, a corrupt politician. The film explores the themes of the triumph of good over evil.

The film is directed by V. V. Vinayak who co-wrote the film with Akula Siva and was produced by DVV Danayya and presented by S. Radha Krishna under the banner Universal Media. It also stars Kajal Aggarwal, and Amala Paul in lead roles.

Yevadu (2014)

The plot centres around a young man who has a life-saving face transplant after being gravely injured and his girlfriend is murdered in a violent attack. He sets out for vengeance after becoming unrecognisable to his attackers. Later, new challenges arise for him as a result of his altered appearance.

Yevadu was the highest-grossing Telugu film in 2014. It starred Ram Charan, Shruti Haasan, and Amy Jackson while Allu Arjun and Kajal Aggarwal in cameo roles with Jayasudha, Sai Kumar, Rahul Dev and Brahmanandam playing supporting roles. It was co-written and directed by Vamsi Paidipally and produced by Dil Raju under the banner Sri Venkateswara Creations.

Govindudu Andarivadele (2014)

Govindudu Andarivadele is an action drama written and directed by Krishna Vamsi. The film is produced by Bandla Ganesh for Parameswara Art Productions. Aside from Ram Charan, the movie stars Kajal Aggarwal while Srikanth, Kamalinee Mukherjee, Prakash Raj, Jayasudha, Rahman, and Adarsh Balakrishna.

In this film, Ram Charan portrays Abhiram, an NRI who visits his grandfather Balaraju's home to reconcile the relationship between his father Balaraju and his grandfather in the disguise of an agriculture student.

Dhurva (2016)


In this 2016 action thriller, Ram Charan plays ASP K. Dhruva, an IPS officer who unearths a sizable organised crime network. Then, he sets out to capture the mastermind of a significant fraud and faces several obstacles on his path.

It features Ram Charan in the titular role, along with Aravind Swamy, Rakul Preet Singh, and Navdeep. The movie was directed by Surender Reddy and produced by Allu Aravind under his banner Geetha Arts.

Rangasthalam (2018)

For this film, Ram Charan won Filmfare Award for Best Actor – Telugu at the 66th Filmfare Awards South.

RRR (2022)


The megablockbuster film RRR helmed by SS Rajamouli is the number one reason for Ram Charan to become a global superstar. The actor had previously acted in numerous films and carved his place in the heart of the Indian audience.

The epic drama is about two Indian revolutionaries Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem, their friendship and their fight against the British Raj. Ram Charan as Raju spoke power in his acting. He is the officer working under the British, and his opening scene where he fights the crowd is something to look out for.

The film had a $65 million opening weekend globally, finishing second in the United Kingdom and Ireland and third in the United States. In Japan, the movie premiered on October 21, 2022. The film had the widest release of any Indian production in the nation, playing in 209 theatres, including 31 IMAX, throughout 44 cities and prefectures. The film grossed ¥73 million in its first weekend, the highest for an Indian film. Due to this, it debuted in that week's top 10 positions. The movie had a cumulative gross after eight weekends ¥403 million, making it the highest-grossing Indian movie in Japan.

Ram Charan Movie: RRR (2022)
One of its primary focal points is the RRR song Naatu Naatu, which was filmed in Kyiv, Ukraine. On January 10, the Golden Globes announced that Naatu Naatu had defeated singers like Taylor Swift, Rihanna, and Lady Gaga to take home the award for Best Original Song - Motion Picture, marking a first for India. In his address, music director MM Keeravani thanked a number of people, including Prem Rakshith, who choreographed the song. Furthermore, as we all know, the song recently won the highly esteemed Oscar for Best Original Song at the 95th Academy Awards.
